jazzfest, new orleans |
|
day 01, met up with manny & gina at the airport in new orleans, where their friend beth was nice enough to haul us to our luscious salmon-colored HQ by way of the requisite stop @ the drive-through daiquiri store. after meeting our new friends, sam and marta, roommates # 5 and 6, it was off to franky & johnny's for a some delicious local food. caught a great show by the charlie hunter trio at the oldest venue in the land, preservation hall, which paled in comparison to manny's rendition of ace of base's "it's a beautiful life" @ the cat's meow... bar hopped a bit, mostly for the shelter it provided from the torrential downfall that night... the last member of our crew, kevin showed up the next day in time for a nice lunch at port of call, then headed to [the new orleans jazz and heritage festival], where we caught galactic & zz top, before heading out. that night chuck brown [who's drummer is still looking for his missing stick] and his crew put on a _phenomenal_ show at the house of blues. ps. that dude in the white suit can rip_it_up. and after stopping in at a great little bar and a bit o' hoola hoop, we caught another great show by michael franti and spearhead at tipitias by day 2 of the festival, a few of us figured we'd save our energy for the shows, and skinned out a bit early, after catching a few random bands and a wee bit of the allman brothers. note: the is also that day that i figured out what i had was not an itch caused by a bug bit, but a full-on case of poison oak, courtesy of big sur. note also the giant standing next to jen & marta. one of the neighbors, and a fantastic meal at emirile's delmonico restaurant, GEORGE CLINTON AND P FUNK... bad ass. a home remedy for poison oak that marta found on the internet, brunch, hand grenades at tropical isle [who refuse to mix hurricanes], the first urinal-based game i've ever seen... and what visit to new orleans is complete without a stop at a nice gentlemen's [and gentle ladies;)] club?... |
