the 2007 international big sur marathon...

the day had finally come-  after ~5 months of training, it was time for jen's second marathon-  one of the most difficult yet most beautiful in all of the land-  [the big sur international marathon].  noticing on the way up, that we'd be driving through paso robles around lunch time, we couldn't resist hitting a couple wineries. thankfully it helped to ease a bit of the tension, that grew thicker every mile and hill we encountered on the last bit of our trip which made up 24 of the 26.2 miles we'd be ascending the next day...

up @ 4AM to catch the bus to the starting line, and before we knew it the gun had fired, and we were on our way...

the infamous 2-mile climb [i.e. nothing flat or downhill for 2 miles] towards hurricane point...

over the top and onto bixby bridge, just after the midpoint of the race...

all that worry for nothing-  jen cruised into the finish with plenty of time to spare, with a new marathon PR of 5:32:57 on a much tougher course than her first marathon, while i tagged along with the camera-  big sur marked marathon # 09 for me-  time to celebrate...

back on the road, along a stretch of the most beautiful scenery we've seen in the world....

and of course we made the obligatory stops piedras blancas to check out the elephant seal rookery, and pea soup anderson's [where as a kid, jen used to stop on family vacations...  for pea soup refueling]

NOTE:  FINALLY!  despite the fact that our photos will never be able to capture the beauty experienced by actually visiting a location in person, the beauty of big sur [and faster internet connection speeds] has finally persuaded me to start using higher resolution for select photos on the site.
